Allume
Over the course of one semester we worked to create Allume, a candle company whose mission is to create eco-friendly candles using soy wax and essential oils.
Labels
We were asked to create a promotional piece for our brand, so we chose to design labels that would be placed on our candle’s jars. Based on other candle brand’s scent catalogues, we decided on six scents: black cherry, pink prosecco, bergamot and ylang ylang, vanilla lavender, mahogany coconut and eucalyptus mint. Our brand’s aesthetic was based on rustic, organic visuals and desaturated, warm colours. The labels were created in Adobe Illustrator using my Wacom tablet to draw illustrations with the brush tool and adjusting the stroke widths to give off a hand-drawn feel.
Packaging
For our packaging course, we were tasked with recreating a previous project in an eco-friendly manner. Since our Allume candles’ packaging consisted solely of labels on glass jars, I wanted to design a box that would protect them from damage while maintaining our brand’s eco-friendliness. I wanted the boxes to look consistent with our candle labels, so I reused the illustrations and typography. I adjusted some of our brand colours so that our logo could be white on each box, since previously the contrast would have made it illegible.
Guerrilla Marketing
We were asked to create a guerrilla marketing campaign for our brand. I wanted to make something bold and visually different from the rest of our branding in order to grab consumers’ attention. I created three posters in Photoshop, each featuring one of our scented candles in a smelly environment with the slogan “Smell that? We don’t.” The goal was to imply that our candles smell so good that when lit, any foul odours vanish.
Stationary
We were asked to design a stationary set consisting of a letterhead, business card and envelope. Using Adobe Illustrator for the envelope and business card and inDesign for the letterhead, our goal was to create stationary that matched our brand aesthetic. We opted to use red and beige to emit a warm feeling, similar to the warmth emitted by our candles
